CLOTHES LOOK SO MUCH CUTER ON KIDS THAN IN LANDFILLS

The Truth & Our Solution

The fashion industry emits about the same quantity of GHGs (Greenhouse Gases) per year as the entire economies of France, Germany, and the United Kingdom combined. If no further action is taken over the next decade beyond measures already in place, the industry’s GHG emissions will likely rise to around 2.7 billion tons per year by 2030, reflecting an annual volume growth rate of 2.7%. 1

In the US alone, the massive consumer retail market is estimated to release up to 6 billion tons by the end of 2023.

SOUNDS A BIT SCARY DOESN'T IT?

The truth is, the fashion industry is a major contributor to carbon emissions and it doesn't appear to be changing even with strong community and activism, any time soon. So how do we as an online retailer and as concerned parents and neighbors ourselves, make any difference?

It’s great to hear that companies are using materials that are more environmentally friendly, yet there are other challenges that need to be tackled if we want to reduce fashion’s negative environmental impact. We need to individually start by changing our mindsets.

In an article for Vogue, Jess Cole discusses with experts from the UN Alliance for Sustainable Fashion, and points out “The linear ‘take, consume, destroy’ approach has been around for centuries, and it appears to be challenging for businesses to break with this tradition to influence change.”

The Ellen MacArthur Foundation, calls for a circular economy, “To solve the problem, we must reinvent fashion itself. This means… developing business models that allow clothes to have less impact on the environment, to be worn longer and be turned into new clothes when they are no longer needed.”

"It’s time to take matters into your own hands, for a better future for our children Let your fashion choice be your expression, your voice and your vote for a sustainable future.” Michelle Yeoh, Goodwill Ambassador, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)

HOW MIENA STRIVES FOR A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE

We support the resell + up-cycle movement with the sale of pre-loved apparel and accessories for children.

Our curated pre-loved as well as new, unworn items are largely sourced from designers that share our passion for a cleaner, more sustainable world.

MiEna seeks out shipping carriers on a regular basis that embrace our sustainable principles and practices - this might mean a slightly higher shipping rate to our customers but we believe our shoppers will respond in a positive way knowing we're choosing a cleaner, safer planet for their children as well as ours.
